A gotrekking equestrian holiday is a unique opportunity to go horse or pony riding in one of the most natural unspoilt coastal areas of Ireland. Located in the West of Ireland, in the middle of the Wild Atlantic Way, the longest coastal trail in the World.
Westport Woods Hotel & Spa is your base for a gotrekking equestrian holiday. It offers the best possible combination of great trekking, excellent accommodation and plenty to do even while not horse riding, whether holidaying on your own or with a partner.
The stables are located on the outskirts of the award winning heritage town of Westport, between the mountains and the sea. Just a perfect location. Treks range from beach riding, splashing through the shallows of the Atlantic ocean, to the foothills of Croagh Patrick and woodland tracks interspersed between thousand year old bogs. The horses aren’t typical trekking stock, they’re Irish Sport horse and cob types, some homebred, and all full of their own character and brave personality.
The hotel welcomes guests with a roaring log fire and is a great base for riders and non-riders alike. An award winning leisure centre, spa and all day food in the equestrian-themed Bench Cafe Bar all combine for a winning formula. Equestrian holidays are 3, 5 or 7 days in length with a variety of treks on offer each day.

The staff at GoTrekking went out of their way to ensure that we were matched with horses that suited us, that we were safe on our horses, and finally, that we had an amazing time. I would recommend the GoTrekking beach ride to anyone;

We took part in the first ever Ride & Tide equestrian festival run by the Westport Woods Hotel in Westport earlier this month and it was just fantastic. I was horse riding, on one of the go trekking horses. Others were cycling on mountain bikes and some kayakers joined us in the sea as well. Really well organised event. We're looking forward to the next one.

The owner Michael, who was a fantastic host and a pleasure to meet. His knowledge of the area was superb which gave us wonderful experiences when we went horse riding. His personality made the experience as he was great fun, an excellent horseman and really knowledgeable about all things equine.

I was travelling around Ireland by myself ,,,I had the BEST rides. A 2 hour trek through the hills and trails, the rain drizzling, the horses hooves clopping along on the bitumen roads and then picking their way through the farmers fields….a 3 hour ride along the ocean front, through the surf, along the sand, galloping, strolling through the shallow water, swimming across a deeper channel perched on top of the horses back trying not to get TOO wet!. It was a wonderful adventure and one I can highly recommend.

Myself and my buddy managed to escape from the domestic drudgery of babies and kids, running a home. The owner of the hotel Michael Lennon took us out personally and we had a fantastic ride across the most amazing beach you can imagine. For exhilarating beach riding - wow this is it. The hot ports on the way back were much appreciated also - Irish hospitality at its best! What a hidden gem of a place, and can't believe it rights on my doorstep.
